‘Jungwoon theater goal’ earns Jeju a dramatic 1-1 draw away to Gangwon… Gangwon draws 2 points with Suwon

Jeju United earned a dramatic draw away to Gangwon FC. Gangwon and Suwon Samseong are now level on two points.

Gangwon drew 1-1 at home against Jeju in the 35th round of the Hana One Q K League 2023 at Gangneung Sports Complex at 4:30 p.m. on April 28. Gabriel scored the opening goal but conceded a late equalizer to Jeong-woon in stoppage time.

Gangwon head coach Yoon Jung-hwan brought out a 4-3-3 formation. Striker Lee Jung-hyeop returned to the starting lineup after a long absence, while Yoo In-soo and Kim Dae-won started as the two wing forwards. The midfield consisted of Lee Seung-won, Shin Min-woo, and Alibayev, while the back line consisted of Yoon Seok-young, Kang Too-ji, Kim Young-bin, and Hwang Moon-ki. The gloves were worn by Lee Kwang-yeon, while Jeju’s acting head coach Jeong Jo-guk used 22-year-old volunteers Kwak Seung-min and Han Jong-moo as a duo. The midfield consisted of Kim Gun-woong, Choi Young-joon, Kim Seung-seop, and Hayes, while the back line consisted of Song Ju-hoon, Yeon Je-woon, Jung Woon, and Kim Oh-kyu. Kim Dong-jun was in goal.

In the 12th minute of the first half, Kangwon had a great chance. Kim Dae-won received a pass from Lee Seung-won and fired a right-footed shot from inside the box, but it was saved by goalkeeper Kim Dong-joon. In the 17th minute, Yoo In-soo committed a foul with a strong tackle on Kim Oh-kyu. Referee Kim Hee-gon conducted an on-field review for about three minutes and eventually showed a yellow card. Jeju took off Kwak Seung-min and Han Jong-moo in the 22nd minute and introduced Yuri and Kim Bong-soo.

Gangwon harassed Jeju with forward pressure, something that hadn’t been working well for them. Until the midway point of the first half, Jeju was unable to create any offensive chances. Coach Yoon Jung-hwan took off Lee Seung-won and brought on Wellington to add speed. Up front, Lee Jeong-hyeop controlled aerial balls through strong physicality, while Kim Dae-won and Wellington tried to create chances through second balls. Jeju threatened in first-half stoppage time with powerful headers from Yuri and Song Ju-hoon. However, they were denied by goalkeeper Lee Kwang-yeon. The first half ended 0-0 for both teams. 굿모닝토토 도메인

Gangwon introduced Gabriel in place of Lee Jeong-hyeop at the start of the second half. Coach Yoon Jung-hwan revealed before the game that Lee Jung-hyeop, who had returned from injury, was only half-game fit. Yoon’s choice paid off in the fifth minute. Wellington broke through on the right and sent in a low cross that was met by the onrushing Gabriel’s right foot and rattled the net.

The flow continued for Gangwon. Yoo and Wellington shook the flanks, while Kim Dae-won supported Gabriel in the second line. Jeju was desperate to break up Kangwon’s strong attack. In the 11th minute of the second half, Alibayev’s shot went over the bar. Acting head coach Jung Joguk made a substitution to stem the tide. He took off Kim Oh-kyu and Kim Seung-seop and brought on Lee Ki-hyuk and Jonatan Ling. Ling hit the post with a left-footed shot in the first minute. Kangwon responded in the 16th minute with a powerful right-footed shot from Gabriel that went just wide of the post.

Jeju took control after the substitution. A breakthrough on the right flank led to a chance for Yuri in the front line. Kangwon blocked it with a physical defense. The second half continued to be a tense affair as both teams passed the midway point. In the 31st minute, Wellington’s powerful shot was not converted into a goal. In the 32nd minute, nerves got the better of both teams and a scuffle ensued. After a four-minute stoppage, the referee issued warnings to Kangwon’s Alibayev and Yoo Sang-hoon and Jeju’s Choi Young-joon and Kim Dong-joon.

Jeju brought on Lee Ju-yong in the 36th minute to bolster their flank. Center back Song Ju-hoon moved up to the front line. Gangwon brought on long defender Kim Woo-seok in the 39th minute to consolidate. At the end of regulation time, coach Yoon Jung-hwan brought on Hankyoung and Ryu Kwang-hyun.

Nine minutes of second-half stoppage time were awarded. Gabriel faced the goalkeeper after a Jeju defense error, but his chip shot was not quite on target. Jeju pushed for the equalizer. However, Gangwon’s defense was solid. In the fourth minute of extra time, Lee Ju-yong’s rebounded shot went wide. However, Jeju equalized on the ensuing corner kick by Jeong-woon. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
