‘An anomaly at the start – the real game is the bath’ KT defeats LG in close game

KT earns its first win of the season after a back-and-forth game that saw a total of 13 lead changes.

Suwon KT earned a 71-66 road victory over Changwon LG in their 2023-2024 regular season game at Changwon Gymnasium on Nov. 21.

Paris Bass (16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocked shots) was a force in the game, while Ha Yoon-ki (20 points, 5 rebounds) did his part.

For his head coaching debut, Song Young-jin used an unorthodox lineup. He started Michael Eric in place of leading scorer Paris Bass. “The key is to reduce the Asem Marei effect, and Eric has experience against him in the A-Match and the Turkkiye League. We thought he would be able to block better, and we also considered that we had to play a back-to-back (SK on the 22nd),” said Song.

KT’s initial strategy paid off. They held Marei to eight points and six rebounds in the first half, but minimized LG’s perimeter offense from Marei. Lee Jae-do and Yang Hong-seok were limited to three and two points, respectively, in the first half.

However, KT finished the half with a 33-35 lead. They shot just 15.4% (2-of-13) from three-point range, and Han Hee-won, who led the team’s offense with nine points in the first half, got into foul trouble early in the third quarter.

In the end, you have to score more points than your opponent to win. After being down in the third quarter, KT tried to make a comeback by bringing in Bass. The effect of Bass was obvious. As Bass racked up points inside and out, the domestic players’ chances were revitalized. While Bass finished with six points, four rebounds, and two assists, KT’s Lee Hyun-seok chipped in with two three-pointers, including a tough shot.

Trailing 57-58, KT started the fourth quarter with Eric and used its rebounding advantage to turn the tide, bringing Bass back into the game with just over five minutes left in the quarter. It was a shootout, and Bass lived up to his coach’s expectations. He threw cold water on LG with a three-pointer from the top, followed by an assist that led to a Ha Yoon-ki free throw.

If Bass led KT’s comeback, it was Ha Yoon-ki who drove a wedge into the game. With 47 seconds left in the game, KT was down by one point. With Bass looking for an open look from the perimeter, Jung Sung-woo found space for a breakthrough, which created an easy chance for Ha Yoon-ki under the basket. Ha Yoon-ki took the pass from Jung Sung-woo and scored under the basket to make it a four-point game. 토토사이트

With the victory in hand, KT held off LG’s final push for a comeback in stoppage time to secure their first win under new head coach Song Young-jin.

LG, on the other hand, was led by Asem Marei (17 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals), but was held to eight points in the fourth quarter.
