“I wish them all the best for the national team now.”
It was a spectacular finale to his national team call-up.
Doosan Bears’ Kwak Bin Kwak pitched six innings of eight-hit, no-run ball against the KIA Tigers at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju on April 18, leading his team to an 8-4 victory.
The win extended Doosan’s winning streak to seven games. Kia, meanwhile, lost its fifth straight game. 굿모닝토토
Before the game, Doosan head coach Lee Seung-yeop said of Kwak-Bin’s absence, “Kim Dong-ju will start. However, he is not a fixed starter. We also have Choi Won-jun and Kim Min-kyu. If he performs well, he will be able to start again in the next game.”
“Actually, we don’t have a pitcher like Kwak Bin,” he laughed, then added, “Not only us, but the other nine teams have players who are out of the lineup. It’s not an injury, it’s for the country, so we can take it,” he emphasized. “If the rest of the players take the responsibility of ‘I’m the starter’ and pitch well in Kwak Bin’s absence, the atmosphere will be better. I hope our players will do a good job so that Kwak Bin can focus on the national team for two weeks.”
The Doosan bats took the pressure off Kwak’s shoulders with a big inning, scoring six runs in the first and three in the third. Kwak-Bin responded with six scoreless innings.
“He did his job,” Lee said. He finished his last start before being called up to the national team in a clean fashion, and we wish him the best for the national team,” said Lee.
“The batsmen scored a lot of runs early in the game to take the lead. Soo-Bin Jung, who had a 100% batting average, and Rojas Tablesetter, who had three hits, were the spearheads. I also commend Yang-ji Kang Seung-ho, who did his job as a center fielder, and Cho Seung-ho for his multi-hit performance in the ninth spot in the batting order.”
“I would also like to thank all the fans who traveled to Gwangju on a Monday and supported us through the live broadcast.”
