After completing a medical and filming an interview with the club, Juan Palinha deleted Fulham from his social media accounts after his move to Bayern Munich fell through.
It was a stunning twist on the final day of the transfer window. Palinha’s move to Munich was canceled after the official announcement. Shocked, Palinha removed Fulham from his social media bio and changed his profile picture to a picture of the Portugal national team. As of today, there is no sign of Fulham on Palinha’s social media.
The Portugal international midfielder was close to joining Munich this summer. The Bavarians won the Bundesliga title last season and have been looking at a number of players to bolster their midfield. Munich coach Thomas Tuchel said: “We are not strong enough in numbers. We only have three midfielders who can play an important role defensively,” Tuchel said, calling for the addition of a player who can play in the No. 6 role.
Currently, there are only three players in Munich who can play as a defensive midfielder – Jozua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Konrad Reimer. Last year’s signing from Ajax, Ryan Hrabenbergh, left for Liverpool. Munich, who often use a 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation, needed at least one more defensive midfielder.
That’s why they looked at Eric Dier, who was a free agent while playing center back for Tottenham, as well as Manchester United’s Scott McTominay. Palinha was also on their radar.
Born in 1995, Palinha was a standout performer in his home country’s top flight with Sporting Lisbon and Braga SC before joining Fulham last year, where he quickly adapted to the Premier League and became a regular starter.
Using his 6-foot-3 frame to anchor Fulham’s midfield with his defensive prowess, wide coverage, and solid build-up play, he also represented Portugal at last year’s World Cup in Qatar, proving his talent is undeniable.
Munich, who wanted Palinha ahead of Dyer and McTominay at this stage of his career, approached Fulham straight away. With Munich, one of the top three clubs in the world alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona, interested, Palinha wanted a move. Fulham agreed to let him go for the right transfer fee and a replacement.
Palinha flew to Munich to undergo a medical. He also reportedly fulfilled the club’s media schedule. According to Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in European soccer, Palinha passed his medical and completed his official media schedule, including interviews, in a Munich jersey. Palinha is said to have been convinced to join the Bavarians, as the transfer is usually a done deal. On social media, he was even the latest to “follow” Bayern Munich, indicating that he was only waiting for the official signing of a prestigious club. 바카라
In the end, however, the transfer didn’t happen. Fulham suddenly changed their minds about selling Palinha.
Fulham had targeted Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay as possible replacements for Palinha, but the clubs were unable to reach an agreement before the transfer window closed. Fulham quickly canceled Palinha’s transfer because, as mentioned above, they were willing to let him go on condition that a replacement was found. Palinha had to return to England.
Palinha, whose transfer had been called off in front of his eyes, was apparently devastated by what had happened, as he removed all traces of Fulham from his social media profiles.
“Palinha is devastated after his move to Munich fell through. He was convinced that he was going to join the Bavarians,” the French publication said, adding that Palinha was heartbroken.
“Tuchel is also unhappy with the situation. The failure to sign Palinha has left him very upset,” he said, adding that Tuchel, who will start the season with only three midfielders, has also suffered a blow.
