Suddenly second in wins and strikeouts…’Rogue’ Bauer 9 wins, 115 strikeouts, “I want to win 15 games and win the Sawamura Award”

He’s second in wins and third in strikeouts.

Yokohama BayStars right-hander Trevor Bauer (32) earned his ninth win of the season (3-3). The right-hander pitched seven innings of three-run ball against the Yakutre Swallows at Meiji-Jingu Stadium in Tokyo on May 15.

He faced 28 batters and threw 109 pitches, allowing eight hits and striking out four. He won three straight games, starting on July 27 against the Junichi Dragons.

As the season progressed, the reigning Cy Young Award winner looked more like himself. He threw 100+ pitches in each of his last five games, including a Quality Start Plus (7+ innings pitched, 3 earned runs or less) against Yakult on July 15.

In five games and 38 innings, he had a 1.18 ERA. Against Hiroshima on Aug. 3, he threw 113 pitches to force a 10-inning extra inning. 꽁머니

Left-hander Shota Imanaga is Yokohama’s ace alongside Shota.

He got out of an early jam. In the top of the first inning, he gave up a double to Tetsuto Yamada of Yakult #3, but then struck out Munetaka Murakami of Yakult #4 on a swinging strikeout.

In the top of the second, Musa was hit by back-to-back singles by foreign hitters Domingo Santana and Jose Osuna. Musa got out of the jam with runners on first and second. He induced Soma Uchiyama to ground out to third base. He then retired Ryosei Takeoka on a swinging strikeout to give himself a breather.

In the top of the sixth, they finally added another run. Musa walked two batters in a row. He gave up back-to-back singles to Daiki Hamada and Jose Santana to score two runs.

Double-digit wins in his rookie season are within reach. “Ten is a very good number,” Bauer said. But I want to win 15 or more, and I want to win the Sawamura Award,” Bauer said.

Standing tall as the leading foreign pitcher in the Central League. No foreign pitcher in Yokohama has ever won more than nine games.

It’s the third time in six years. It’s also the first time in 20 years that he’s struck out 115 or more batters since 2003.
