Is Son Heung-min’s new partner Lukaku ‘at his worst’? Tottenham struggling to sign Kane replacement

Kane, who began playing for Tottenham in 2013-2014, is trophyless despite a career that spans more than a decade. With Tottenham in desperate need of a striker, one of the first names that came to mind was Lukaku. The 30-year-old Lukaku, who is the same age as Kane, was once a star in his own right. He peaked in the EPL with Everton in the 2016-17 season, scoring 25 league goals. He then spent two seasons at Manchester United, where he performed well, but not as well as expected. In 2019, he moved to Italy’s Inter Milan, where he scored over 20 league goals in back-to-back seasons and played a key role in the league title.

However, Lukaku’s recent form has been less than stellar. He was transferred to Chelsea on his own terms and then loaned back to Inter, and both his form and goalscoring have plummeted. Even at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he failed to score a single goal due to his poor finishing, contributing to Belgium’s early exit.

With most of the star strikers who were expected to change clubs in the summer transfer window having already moved on or re-signed with their existing clubs, the club’s options are limited, which is why they may turn to Lukaku. Lukaku’s talent is undoubtedly there, but his attitude and recent form have been an issue.
