Scherzer, Montgomery win…TEX ‘wins four in a row’ as trades pay off

After making some bold moves in the trade market, the Texas Rangers continued their upward trend.

Texas won its 64th game of the season with a 6-2 home victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday night at Globe Life Field in Texas, giving the Rangers their 46th win of the season. Their winning percentage is .582 and they have won four straight games to maintain their lead in the American League West. They have a 1.5-game lead over the second-place Houston Astros (63-48).

Jordan Montgomery was the starter in the win over Miami. Montgomery was traded from the St. Louis Cardinals to Texas on March 31. In his first start since the trade, the right-hander pitched six innings of six-hit ball (one homer) with six strikeouts and two walks to earn his seventh win of the season. “I just wanted to make a good first impression with my new team,” he said, and it gave Texas fans hope. Roby, a third-round pick in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, has struggled somewhat in Double-A this season, going 2-3 with a 5.05 ERA.
